Copenhagen fashion week sets stage for bold 20th anniversary – nordic talent takes center stage

Copenhagen is gearing up for its biggest Fashion Week yet, marking a pivotal 20th anniversary for the city’s burgeoning fashion scene. From the Opera Park to the Statens Museum for Kunst, and spilling onto cobblestone streets and waterfront runways, the Spring/Summer 2027 season promises a spectacle of international design.

A shift in focus: nordic roots and global expansion

After a period of upheaval – with heavyweight brands like Ganni and Cecilie Bahnsen relocating to Paris, and others like Saks Potts and (Di)vision closing their doors – Copenhagen Fashion Week has strategically opened its arms to the world. This year’s event will feature a diverse roster of designers, including the established Nordic voices of Henrik Vibskov, Baum und Pferdgarten, and Rotate, alongside exciting newcomers.

Notably, New York label Collina Strada will kick off the week with a guest appearance, supported by The Climate Pledge. Lagos Fashion Week’s Iamisigo will also return for its third consecutive season, and Milan-based Institution, fresh off a Zalando Visionary Award, is making its debut. This influx of international talent signals a significant evolution for CPHFW, moving beyond its regional roots.

Sustainability remains a defining force

Sustainability remains a defining force

At the heart of CPHFW’s identity lies an unwavering commitment to sustainability. CEO Cecilie Thorsmark emphasizes that this focus has proven particularly attractive to brands, both those new to the scene and those previously hesitant to participate. The minimum sustainability standards, introduced in 2020 – far ahead of the curve – have spurred tangible changes across the industry, despite recent challenges.

However, the industry faced a setback in 2025 when a greenwashing allegation from Tanja Gotthardsen and Tænk prompted a defense before Danish authorities. Despite this, CPHFW remains dedicated to its values, recognizing the urgent need for systemic change. Brands are increasingly willing to embed sustainability into their operations, despite the added complexity and cost.

Collaborations and rising stars

Collaborations and rising stars

Beyond the runway, collaborations are driving innovation. Paolina Russo is partnering with Ecco, while Stem is reimagining Ganni’s deadstock materials, marking a pivotal step into synthetic fabrics. Finnish brand Almada Label is making its CPHFW debut, alongside established names like Mfpen, Stine Goya, and Alectra Rothschild / Masculina. Jewelry giant Pandora is sponsoring the 20th-anniversary gala and supporting the New Talent program with stunning pieces for Taus and Anne-Sofie Madsen.

The integration of AI through a partnership with Renoon promises to streamline the implementation of CPHFW’s sustainability standards, bolstering the framework’s reach and impact. Ultimately, CPHFW isn't just showcasing fashion; it’s shaping the future of the industry.
