Tallulah Willis Wears Custom Balenciaga Couture for Idaho Wedding
Writer, artist, and advocate Tallulah Willis married musician Justin Acee on August 8th in a ceremony held in Sun Valley, Idaho. Just over a week prior, Vogue accompanied her to a final wedding dress fitting at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.
A Journey from Etsy to Balenciaga
The process began with Tallulah discussing wedding dress options with her sisters, Rumer and Scout, who recalled her browsing Etsy for inspiration. “She was like ‘What about this one?’ and it was on Etsy,” Scout reminisced, highlighting the surprising evolution of the design. From an online marketplace find to a bespoke creation by Balenciaga creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, the transformation was remarkable.
Collaborative Couture Creation
“This morning I’m feeling almost out of body,” Tallulah admitted, surrounded by her family. Demi Moore, Tallulah’s mother, recalled Piccioli’s dedication, stating, “The day after his first couture collection for Balenciaga, he was with us for four hours, and I think he would have stayed there playing all day.” Brad Goreski, Demi’s longtime stylist, played a crucial role in providing inspiration and references to the Balenciaga team, describing the experience as “a beautiful moment” to see ideas come to life.
The Dress Details
The final gown is a stunning strapless column dress crafted from silk satin and silk organza, featuring a draped train and a delicate bow at the back. The bow was a specific request from Piccioli, envisioned as “a package being unwrapped.” The creation involved an astounding 712 hours of work, including 405 hours of construction and atelier alterations, with an additional nine hours dedicated solely to the veil. Artisans meticulously hand-embroidered each organza petal, requiring approximately 60 hours of work. The bodice was constructed from cotton tulle, reinforced with hand-picoted faille, and the neckline drew inspiration from a Balenciaga look worn by Demi Moore at the Vanity Fair Oscar party.
A Movie Star Transformation
As the veil was placed over Tallulah’s head, friends and family remarked on her transformed appearance, describing her as a “movie star goddess.” “The best part of the dress is the magnitude,” Tallulah shared.
