Zara teams with willy chavarria for 'vatísmo' collection

Zara continues its high-profile designer collaborations with the announcement of Willy Chavarria as its latest partner. The New York Fashion Week-famed designer will release a collection encompassing clothing, jewelry, and accessories for both men's and women's wear, launching on March 26th.

Chavarria’s 'vatísmo' celebrates community and heritage

The collection, titled “Vatísmo,” is a deeply personal project for Chavarria, representing a celebration of friendship, camaraderie, and cultural roots within the Chicano community. “This collaboration is truly a way for me to share the elevated aspects of the brand vision with a wider and more democratic audience,” Chavarria told Vogue.

The design vision, previously showcased in vibrant runway shows like the recent presentation in Paris’ Dojo, draws inspiration from a fantastical blend of 1980s American television dramas – think Dallas and Dynasty – and Mexican telenovelas. This creates a distinctly chic and dramatic aesthetic, infused with a touch of humor.

The collection features signature Chavarria tailoring, including wide-leg and slightly barrelled trousers for women, and structured, loose-fitting styles for men. Skirts in various lengths and materials, from rust-hued midis to acid-washed denim, complement the trouser offerings. Longline shorts will be a key piece for both genders. Glamour is amplified through florals, lace, and gem-adorned gold jewelry, balanced by everyday essentials like rose-embroidered bodysuits and slogan tees.

A playful element is introduced with logo-stamped minishorts for men, encouraging a sense of belonging to Chavarria’s expanding “Nueva York” club. The campaign, shot by Glen Luchford and featuring Christy Turlington, aims to present a new facet of the model's image—strong shoulders accentuated by tailored wool jackets and patent leather.

Chavarria emphasizes the quality of the garments, designed to be treasured and worn for years. The collection will be available on Zara.com and in stores starting March 26th. This partnership signals Zara’s continued commitment to evolving its image through impactful designer collaborations.
