Chartreuse Nails: The Unexpected Fall Trend for 2026

Fall nail trends typically revolve around warm tones like chocolate brown, burgundy, and taupe. However, for fall 2026, chartreuse is emerging as a bold and energetic alternative, breaking away from the usual seasonal palette.

A Nod to ‘Brat Summer’

The vibrant green hue has roots in past trends, notably Brat Summer, and has resurfaced in recent fashion shows – seen in taffeta bubble skirts at Prada’s spring/summer 2026 collection and crinoline dresses on Simone Rocha’s runway.

“It feels fresh and seasonal, an autumnal move on from spring/summer’s ‘matcha’ craze,” says Giorgia Cappella, head of product and education at The Gel Bottle. Manicurist Megan Caie agrees, noting that it’s a statement color with an autumnal undertone.

Choosing the Right Shade

Experts emphasize that chartreuse can work on various skin tones. Cooler, blue-based skin tones suit shades with more green, while warmer, golden undertones can handle yellower tones. Cappella suggests testing the shade on the wrist to find the best match.

“On deeper skin tones, chartreuse truly shines, offering a gorgeous contrast,” Caie adds. “For paler skin, opt for a softer, less intense shade to avoid overpowering the look.”

Application Tips

Application Tips

Proper nail preparation is crucial for a bold color. Cappella recommends considering shape and length – rounded or almond shapes appear playful, while longer squares or coffin shapes create a dramatic statement. Caie advises carefully prepping cuticles and applying a base coat to fill ridges and prevent staining.

When applying the polish, use thin layers to avoid lumps and bumps, and seal with a glossy top coat to enhance the color’s vibrancy. “With a bold shade, you can really see the growth as you get closer to your next appointment, so prep is key,” says Cappella.
