Kendall Jenner’s Rare Alexander Calder Earrings Sparked a Vogue Hunt
Kendall Jenner’s understated elegance at the Venice Film Festival was elevated by a striking pair of Alexander Calder earrings, a “if you know you know” moment thanks to their unique artistry.
A Collector’s Quest
The earrings, dating back to 1955 and crafted from hammered silver and steel wire, were sourced through a complex trail involving the Calder Foundation, a New York collector, and Jenner’s stylist Dani Michelle, ultimately landing at London-based gallerist Louisa Guinness’s gallery.

Guinness’s Exclusive Find
Guinness explained that the earrings are exceptionally rare, even within her already extensive collection of artist-made jewelry, including works by Calder, Man Ray, and Niki De Saint Phalle. “Her stylist said, ‘We’re looking for some Calder earrings.’ And so I sent her a small selection,” Guinness told Vogue.

Calder’s Unexpected Jewelry Career
Alexander Calder, renowned for his abstract mobiles, also created wearable jewelry, starting with pieces for his sister’s dolls in 1929. His approach, utilizing humble materials like brass and silver wire, was considered radical for the time, offering a departure from traditional fine jewelry.
A Perfect Fit for Jenner’s Style
Guinness noted that the earrings were “very easy to wear” and perfectly suited Jenner’s aesthetic, complementing her “The Row-forward” style. Jenner is also a known art collector, owning pieces by artists like James Turrell, Tracey Emin, and Barbara Kruger.
