Lace shorts are officially here: my unexpected spring obsession
Let’s be honest, I spent the last few months cocooned in thermal leggings and hefty jeans. But the bare-leg season is officially upon us, and I’m fully committed – wholeheartedly – to what might just be my favorite spring trend: lace-trimmed shorts.
A soft switch-up
My warm-weather wardrobe has pretty much been stuck on a three-day rotation of the same three denim shorts. So, when lace-trimmed shorts started popping up everywhere last year, it felt like a genuinely welcome change. Same familiar silhouette, but with this deliciously subtle, more feminine touch – and a little unexpected twist that didn’t feel too far outside my comfort zone. Initially, I confess, it had a slight “bloomers and creams” vibe, which everyone was immediately picking up on. But honestly? It’s really grown on me.

Sophisticated sweetness
Now, don’t get me wrong – denim shorts will always be a classic. But the way lace-trim shorts elevate everything is just…chef’s kiss. A simple tee or tank top instantly feels elevated with just a pair of these; paired with a simple sandal. Or, take a peek at Emma Roberts rocking them at Coachella last weekend – a zip-through windbreaker, oversized aviator sunglasses, and ankle boots – peak festival chic. It’s a complete mood.

My personal styling plan
Personally, I'm leaning into a little juxtaposition. I’m mixing in some of my more relaxed pieces to create a cool contrast. Think: lace shorts paired with a plain, slightly loose white tee, an oversized blazer, and heeled thong sandals. It's deceptively easy, but still feels put-together. A dramatically oversized pair of sunglasses – channeling Emma’s vibe – and suddenly it’s this effortlessly cool take on power dressing. It just feels right for the season, in my opinion.
The details matter
Right now, Topshop has nailed the look with their satin lace insert shorts. That dreamy satin finish and the delicate lace trim at the hem? Perfection. And the elastic waistband is a huge win – it’s comfortable without feeling restrictive. They're retailing for a steal at just £36. But don't stop there! Marks & Spencer’s Satin Lace Trim Shorts (£69) and Pull&Bear’s Lace Trim Camisole Shorts (£25.99) are also worth a look.
