The incident has sparked fears that the truce between Iran and its regional adversaries may have collapsed, plunging the region back into open conflict.

As the situation spirals out of control, US President Donald Trump invited South Korea to join a coalition targeting Iran, after reports emerged that Tehran had attacked a South Korean-flagged cargo ship.
